Tracing the Traces

In the exhibition Tracing the Traces, artist Chenxi Gao uses paper, thread, fabric, and video projection to explore objects, homes, spaces, people, and the connections between them. Her work traces monologues and conversations, the remembered and the forgotten, the real and the reimagined. Are homes meant to be temporary? What happens to the traces we leave behind in the space we once inhabited and the land we have passed through? These questions surface as Gao moves between homes, cities, and countries. This exhibition features works made in Denton, Texas; Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Roanoke, Virginia between 2023 and 2026.
